Conservatives Resign Antony Calvert

The Sunday Times are reporting that The Conservative Party has resigned as a candidate in the key marginal seat of Wakefield after The Sunday Times unearthed evidence of his controversial past remarks about food banks and feminism.

Antony Calvert, a Tory candidate in the Labour-held seat of Wakefield, said ahead of the 2015 general election that “if ever there was a reason to be involved in public office” it was to expose “ludicrous” claims of food poverty in the UK. He also said Labour’s Harriet Harman had to stop “banging on about wholly and utterly irrelevant feminist issues”.
