Brexit Update



DOWNING Street haved issued this statement as regards the Brexit talks:

“The Prime Minister said there was a way forward for a deal that could secure all our interests, respect the Good Friday Agreement, get rid of the backstop and get Brexit done by October 31 so we can push on with domestic agenda.”

“Michel Barnier briefed EU27 ambassadors this afternoon, following constructive technical-level talks with the United Kingdom over the weekend.”


Earlier, Jacob Rees Mogg told Sophy Ridge Sophy Ridge: “I think that Boris is somebody who even the arch Eurosceptics, even a member of the Brexit Party, can trust and have confidence in."

Yesterday the PM told Cabinet in conference call that a new Brexit deal is doable, but that "there is still a significant amount of work to get there.”

TBG understands that Donald Tusk has given Boris only 48 hours until Tuesday evening to reach a deal to put to the rest of the EU 27 at a summit on Thursday and Friday before we understand it is planned to be put to Parliament next Saturday.

Home Office minister Victoria Atkins told BBC Radio 4's Today programme “In the last few days, we've seen a real shift in approach from the EU - and in Ireland in particular - for which we're extremely grateful and appreciative.”

"With the negotiations ongoing I’m an optimist.”

“I do believe that we can get a deal by 31 October."
