As You Were in Portsmouth

TWO sitting MPs and there main challengers were all selected for the 2017 General Election in Portsmouth recently.

Flick Drummond, who won the Portsmouth South seat at the 2015 election with a huge swing from the scandal hit Liberal Democrats will once again be facing former council leader Gerald Vernon Jackson.

Disabilities Minister and Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt will again face Liberal Democrat Darren Sanders after increasing her majority in 2015.

Sanders won his Baffin's ward council seat last May with a huge majority over the Conservatives and that in itself is believed to have been a big factor in his reselection this time.

With Ukip in free fall in the polls and Labour in turmoil TBG thinks that the Liberal Democrats could now be the main challengers in both seats.

So much so that Portsmouth Liberal Democrats activists who were believed to have been helping the party in the Hampshire County Council seat of Havant North West earlier in the week have since been recalled to the city.

There are no elections taking place in May for any of the Portsmouth unitary council seats.
