EXCLUSIVE: UKIP Play-up Hopes of Winning Havant But Local Tory Says Cameron Should be Allowed to Finish Job.

UKIP have sensationally claimed that they are on course for a shock victory in the Havant constituency in the forthcoming General Election, TBG can reveal.

Scores of Ukip supporters were in the town's High Street on Saturday and according to TBG roving reporter got a good response too.

So, when asked if he thinks he can pull off a huge shock Ukip candidate John Perry told TBG:

"Absolutely yes, we polled 8% more votes than the Conservatives in the last national election (Euro Election in 2014) and I see no reason to assume that margin will not increase based on UKIP policies."

"We have received a great deal of support in Emsworth and Hayling Island too and residents are very sympathetic to UKIP policies."

"There are 10 UKIP candidates standing for the 10 wards on Havant Borough Council also and all are committed to performing as councillors serving the residents to the very best of their abilities if elected."

"We in UKIP are very optimistic about a successful outcome."

Former Cabinet Minister David Willetts won the seat in 2010 for the Conservatives with a majority of 12,160.

Ukip's confidence has failed to distract Conservative Candidate Alan Mak though.

In an exclusive interview with TBG whilst out campaigning on Hayling Island this morning Mak Hits Back saying:

"Conservatives are getting a positive reception on the doorstep."

"We are campaigning every day, and have a large and growing team of volunteers."

"We are working hard for every vote, and taking nothing for granted."

"The economy is the number one issue."

"Havant’s economy is doing well locally, and people are keen that we finish the job of fixing Labour’s deficit."

"My other focus is backing local schools and colleges to ensure young people have the skills to take on the many technical, engineering and high-skilled roles on offer locally.”

"There is a big sense of momentum on the campaign, and we need to keep going until polls close!"
