Chief Whip sets new record.

tbg. has been doing some more number crunching since yesterday's Commons defeat for Cameron's Coalition.

In doing so tbg. has discovered that new Chief Whip Sir George Young has set a new, albeit unenviable, record.

His failure to rally backbenchers to the government's cause last night after just twelve days in the job meant that he became the record holder for the Chief Whip to suffer the earliest defeat in modern history.

The previous record of 40 days was set back in 1983 by Lord John Wakeham.
