Labour MP wants benefits for pensioners scrapped.

Former Blairite Minister Liam Byrne has well and truly let the cat out of the bag today.

Hot on the heels of attacking tory cuts in recent budgets tbg. has learnt that the new Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary has a cutting plan of his own.

We understand that Byrne wants his own party to scrap benefits such as free bus passes and television licences for rich pensioners.

Byrne has admitted to the Labour Conference this week that "savings need to be made" and has also said that there needs to be "a balance in the welfare state" between the rich and poor.

Byrne led a campaign recently which saw his own party vote AGAINST capping benefits.
