In another humiliating move by the Roman Catholic Church, priests today denounced Scottish government plans to introduce gay marriage.
The priests declared today "National Marriage Sunday" and enforced their view that marriage is specifically a union between a man and a woman. In a letter reading during services throughout Scotland priests said, "pray for our elected leaders, invoking the Holy Spirit on them, that they may be moved to safeguard marriage as it has always been understood, for the good of Scotland and of our society".
The Equality Network said that, "The letter is part of a wider anti-gay agenda"
Clearly the Church is showing just how out of touch, dated and discriminatory it is towards sections of our society. If gay people want to marry and share the same rights as heterosexual unions, then so be it.

How can these people not see just how irrellevant they are in today's society? If, and it is a very small if, their god is real, do they really think that he/she cares where anyone sticks parts of their anatomy? This alleged god is supposed to be 'All loving, forgiving, kind etc.' If this description is even remotely accurate then surely he will be busy stopping the systematic slaughter of innocent children in Syria and the needless starvation of fifteen million children every year around the globe and all the other wars and natural disasters. They forget that they are praying to a god that flooded the entire planet, murdering all but a handful of people, including all the pregnant women, yet these Catholics, and others say abortion is a sin, all the innocent children he is supposed to love and care for, just because another handful of adults failed to please him, having been given free will by that god himself.
So when their leaders declare such vitriolic diatribe about one section of society, because 'It says so in the bible' (Leviticus 18:22) why do they not give equal pulpit time to demand the death penalty for disrespectful sons (Leviticus 20:9 For anyone who curses his mother and his father will surely be put to death) or demanding the penalty for rape as stated in Deuteronomy 22:29 'then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife. Since he raped her, he can never divorce her as long as he lives. Or most ironically for a profession that works every sabbath Exodus 35:2 'anyone who works on the Sabbath will be put to death.' i didnt read any get out clause for professional clergy. And when their leaders proudly assert "pray for our elected leaders, invoking the Holy Spirit on them, that they may be moved to safeguard marriage as it has always been understood, for the good of Scotland and of our society". That highlights to me the outright arrogance of these people that they assume all the elected officials are subject to the whims of a Christian god, ignoringing completely the other religions and those of no religion at all. These church leaders harp on about the meaning of marriage as if rampant alcoholism, record obesity levels, appaulingly poor life style choices, the real problems facing Scotland, come a distant second to a same sex marriage.
Not to mention that their alleged god created the entire universe in six days, and any one who has seen NASA's latest photos will see what an awesome achievement that was, cannot prevent a bit of homosexuality if it displeased him so devine threats and curses for our mortal misdeeds, to me at least, fall in to the catagory of a child tellling me that Santa won't come if I am not good.
Christ Almighty, Ron, the Church's argument is far, far more nuanced than the vapid caricature you've presented above. Research & read if you're that interested in the discussion; how can anyone have the gall to call themself a conservative when they seem so detached from any semblance of conservatism? Put down 'The God Delusion' and try and think instead of being a drone.
