Lot's of people use this phrase!

Mark Johnson said...

I live in Wales, and even down here telling Howlett's is a popular phrase

Anonymous said...

It's not simon fault that Ben tells lies!

Rachel McCartney said...

That's a bit like saying as Hitler once said hello, if you say hello your Hitler! I don't think Simon needs to explain why Ben tells lies.

Gavin Johnson said...

Ben really needs to get out more if he thinks there is a link here! Now at the hustings Howlett said Reza Shah was Simon's campaign manager. He is not, I asked him.

So perhaps Ben should explain why he lied to a whole room of people! That's telling Howlett's

Anonymous said...

Ben is without a doubt the worst person in History.

Reza Shah said...

Yea , indeed Ben Howlett lied about me and my views to a whole room of people! He came to my area, was an idiot and then ran away without paying for dinner. He responded to this by smearing me. That's telling Howlett's!

With stories like this and his general conduct, he shows everyday that he is not fit to lead a scout group! Let alone CF! Too many Howlett's told.

Laura Hughes said...

Ben Howlett told me he was the only candidate and then made up Howlettts about the other candidates!

He really needs to stop his behaviour!

No to CF! said...

Who cares?

Alice Cocktail said...

He told me that the main reason to vote for him is because he's gay, so it'll look great for CF! Yeah, never mind about policy or competence - let's tick a PC box! The fact Cox is also gay and is actually a half decent candidate kind of blows Howlett out of water on that one...

Richard Clarke said...

So what? If a candidate lies, surly it's the other candidates job to point that out!

Sarah Campbell said...

Ben Howlett told me he has a PHD and is a multi-millionaire . All lies, in fact he dies not even have a full time job. What an idiot, also his teams e-mails impress nobody.

Anonymous said...

I just wish Ben would stop being such an idiot!

Richard Shaw said...

Howlett told me if I went against his campaign he would ensure I never had another role in CF.

Anna Petrovic said...

Firstly I don't think for one minute Simon would do this, as he has much better things to do, like work! (unlike the other two) and it's not his style.

Secondly, I was at Durham with Ben the telling Howlett's line has been around since he was president of DUCA. He was always lying to the members, saying things happened that never did, botching and lying about people, holding an election out of term time ( so his candidate won), flaming credit for work he was never involved in etc etc.

For god sake CF don't elect Ben Howlett!

Michelle Jones said...

As a 31 year old I am too old to vote in these elections, but have been around the CF scene for ages. It's frightening fir the future of the party that we are even talking about Ben Howlett as a contender! The guy has none of the qualities required.

He lies, has no ideas and makes Gaffs continually, like his praise for Gerry Adams and his claim that Churchill was his father, claiming endorsements of branches he foes not have and do not even exist! Too many Howlett's, please, please, please CF don't let him ruin the hard work we have all put in!

Anonymous said...

Just to think right now some poor unsuspecting CF member is probably being told a load of Howlett's by Ben.

Anonymous said...

The problem is, he is pressing so much flesh that he will probably get elected.

Michael Hewlett said...

Whilst it might be clever politically to try and get the 'telling howlett's' tag to stick, you are all further dragging this contest to the lowest possible level (and I thought it could not fall much further.....)

The problem with the personality politics you are playing here is that it is very easy to find stories and gaffes to show up candidates (especially among the youth of CF as we are not trying to encourage robots with no social lives to join) continually bringing these up will further discourage people from standing for election and damaging CF in the long term.

Additionally you provide our opponents with a huge stick to beat the future Chair with (Howlett wins and he's painted as an Adams supporter, Cox wins and Labour harp on about the slavery placard.... yes, they may have made mistakes but surely move on) Giving our opponents such ammo is very counter productive. Sure you want your friend/colleague to win the election, but why not campaign on their positive attributes rather than running this campaign of smears and innuendos.

Anonymous said...

At michael Hewlett, the only person running a campaign on smears and innuendoes is Ben Howlet.

Anonymous said...

Good to see Michael, Howlers Defender in chief on here again, harping on like Mother Thresa! Just think like this, why does Ben always get such a reaction? Because he fights dirty and annoys people! Perhaps you should speak to your mate Ben, before you come on here harping on!

Anonymous said...

I was actually going to vote for Simon. After seeing all this I definitely won't be. Why is it so hard for him to not tell lies about people? Ben and Craig seem to manage to stick to policy.

He's a disgrace to CF, and I hope Ben or Craig wins, cos I'll be leaving if neither of them does.

Fraser Campbell said...

@ Michael Hewlett, perhaps you should look a little closer to home. The only candidate running there campaign on Smears and innuendoes is Ben Howlett. Craig and Simon are both clean as a whistle.

Anonymous said...

Let's face it, this is a public forum so the truth will always out, that's why so many people have come on here relaying their own experiences with Ben. Simon used it because Ben lied to a whole room full of people at a hustings and smeared a friend of his, that's the kind of behaviour we need rid of in both politics and society.

SABB said...

The only vitriol I have seen on this site has been directed against Ben Howlett. Also its noticeable that the attacks have become so rabid and from so many "sources" the second their has been a suggestion of the source of the anonymous comments that have blighted anything to do with CF.

Michael Hewlett makes some very good points. I hope after the election is gone some investigations are made and the person(s) responsible are told in no uncertain terms they are not welcome in CF....

Cue someone say yeah it's all howletts teams fault. (I doesn't look that way to me)

Michael Hewlett said...

Anon 11.34pm. Ben is not my mate and I have only met him once as I have Craig (at the Ealing Southall by election). Both seemed equally 'sound candidates' so my desire to see a clean contest has no vested interest. I merely care passionately about CF and it's ability to recruit and retain new members. All of the above posts do neither. If this is 'harping on' or being like 'Mother Theresa' then I am guilty.

I refer you back to the earlier point, if you want to get your friend elected then campaign on their positive attributes rather than smearing the opponents.

On another point, next time you wish to make derisory comments towards a post you might wish to show me the courtesy to comment under your real name....

Timothy Jenkins said...

I have to agree with Michael on this point.

If you are going to nail your colours to the mast and make accusations against a candidate at least have the courage to reveal yourself, rather than slandering anonymously like a socialist in the night.

I have yet to decide you I will vote for but I certainly won't be basing it on blog comments.

Gavin Jenkins said...

Intresting how you get so many various comments on Ben and then a few "very similar" posts defending him/ attacking the attackers. Classic counter tactic, do something wrong then accuse the decent people who wish to hold you to account of xyz.

Ultimatly if any supporter cares about CF they would be having a quiet word in Ben Howlett's ear, telling him to stop his behaviour and also for the good of the organisation not put in those nomination papers.

Timothy Jenkins said...

This rather proves my point. Such is the level of suspicion and paranoia created that even when one is trying to be non-partisan it is automatically attacked as a "tactic".

I know there is no way of telling whether I am who I say I am but there needs to be a certain level of trust.

As I said I'm not a supporter of any candidate yet and my comments apply to all sides.

Gavin Jenkins said...

But Timothy, why do you feel the need to come onto this website and spout off this "general" form of comment when you have no prior knowledge of the situation? Both Craig and Simon are sound, Ben has done nothing but abused people since the start of this race.

alexandra swann said...

This is ridiculous.

A) Ben has a job
B) Ben does not tour the country spreading lies
C) these smears evidently come from another campaign team.

Leave Ben alone he's lovely and throughout my 5 years of involvement he has proved himself to be hard-working, dependable and honest.

Attack me all you like but at least have the balls to put your name to it.

Ben4CF!

Alexandra said...

Sort your grammar out Simon.

telling Howletts, not Howlett's - you are not telling Ben's possessions, you are telling 'Howletts' ie lies.

The fact this is misleading and wrong is a bonus. Simon etc - stop making up lies about Ben and sort out your own campaigns; maybe if you had been involved more than 5 minutes you might realise how hard he has worked for the past 6 years. Where were you?

Anonymous said...

Angry idiot Alex Swann back on the blogs. Firstly this has nothing to do with Simon, it started at DUCA if you had known Ben so long you would know this?

Also if he has worked "So hard" how comes he only get's one mention on the CF website? Ow let us guess, it's because he never did anything.

The Voice of Reason said...

Given that most people say the same things about Ben Howlett and some of the claims he has made at best being dubious, It is clear that Ben is not honest.

The simple fact that his running mate is the only one who comes out and sticks up for him shows this.

Alexandra said...

I am not Ben's running mate, neither am I 'angry'. However, Ben is a friend and he is being attacked without any real justification. I have never known him to lie and he does not write heaps of articles because he has a day job, is a councillor and does a great deal of grass roots campaigning - whilst working for an MEP.

Anonymous said...

Lol @ Alexandra Swann! Good to see you on here trying up the "press release" on behalf of the campaign. Or as we normal CF members call it the fountain of lies. Perhaps if you did not smear everybody then people might believe you.

Timothy Jenkins said...

Gavin,

You are right I don't know the ins-and-outs of allegations but you'll forgive me if I don't take your word on it.

Gavin Jenkins said...

@Timothy, my brother from a different mother. At the end of the day mate, where there is smoke there is fire. If you look all the way through this Campaign every other candidate and potential candidate has been abused. When the anon response comes to his behaviour he says "xyz" wrote that, when he has no evidence to back up his claim.

He is probably the dirtiest campaigner in CF History.

Timothy Jenkins said...

Well cousin Gavin, that may well be the case but I'll be withholding judgement until the facts are revealed.
